Muscat: Lulu Hypermarket Oman recently concluded the exhilarating 'Battle of the Bakers Season 2' contest, an electrifying competition held as part of its World Food Fest, powered by Dahabi Oman. From October 2nd to 4th, 2024, Nujum Mall in Al Amerat became the battleground for some of Oman’s most talented bakers, as they competed to earn the prestigious title of "Ultimate Baking Champions 2024."
The event’s star-studded judging panel included culinary heavyweights: Chef Abdullah Al Hashmi, Development Chef of the MENAT Region; Chef Issa Al Balushi, President of Oman Chef’s Guild and Brand Ambassador for A’saffa Foods and Shahi Foods and Spices; and Chef Achyutananda Das, Executive Pastry Chef at Sheraton Hotels & Resorts.
The two-phase competition brought together six teams of five participants each, all passionate bakers and skilled cake decorators from across Oman. Open to individuals aged 18 and above, the contest kicked off with a thrilling mystery box challenge, featuring Dahabi Patent Flour as the secret and key ingredient. Teams were tasked with baking the perfect sponge at home using the mystery box ingredient before returning to face the next level.
Phase two had the contestants racing against time with a high-speed trolley race to gather ingredients to be used while crafting final cake masterpieces. Contestants were judged on procedure, presentation, and taste. The final results were nothing short of spectacular, with the winning team’s taking home a gift voucher worth 250 OMR, 150 OMR and 100 OMR, respectively.
