Time to update data ahead of 2020 E-Census

Muscat: Citizens and residents have been urged to update their details ahead of the 2020 E-census.
According to officials, the update will contribute to providing the E-Census electronic system with timely and accurate data on elements such as housing and population. On Tuesday, the Technical Committee for Electronic Census of Population, Housing and Establishment 2020 held its second meeting of the current year.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Khalifa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) and attended by committee members.
Nationwide campaign
During the meeting, Dr Al Barwani highlighted the importance of local authorities being ready to update data as they need to be prepared to implement the recently launched nationwide campaign “Your Data, Your Identity’’. He added that providing the facilities needed for citizens and residents to participate should be a priority.
Eng. Omar Al Ismaili, Director General of E-Census 2020, indicated that the process of collecting relevant data would be gradually implemented by the authorities. Specialised teams will establish an integrated and electronically linked database and the campaign will begin by inviting citizens, residents and business owners to update their details.
Relevant authorities which will provide information for the project’s database will also participate in the campaign. The campaign plans to raise awareness on the kind of information that needs to be updated and completed as well as providing a background on procedures and required documents.
“The readiness of people to complete and update their data contributes to establishing a foundation that supports development plans and enhances the quality of services provided to all. Furthermore, their swift interaction with the campaign will demonstrate their commitment towards building the future,” he added further.
The committee also discussed the current status of the project and the outcomes of data matching and updating. The E-Census 2020 is the fourth to be implemented by the Sultanate since the Renaissance. The previous censuses were based on field survey, the most recent being in 2010, whereas the E-Census 2020 is based on registers from various public and private authorities.
