Geneva: Represented by the Council of Oman, the Sultanate of Oman took part in the 149th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)’s General Assembly that convened in Geneva, Switzerland.
Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, delivered a speech in which he spoke about the Sultanate of Oman’s initiatives to utilise an artificial intelligence (AI) programme and advanced digital technologies to achieve strategic goals that serve the goals of sustainable development and security through the acquisition of science, knowledge, technology and innovation.
Oman’s speech also touched on the necessity of enhancing international cooperation to achieve a positive impact on countries and peoples in the short and long terms.
In the speech, Al Maawali cautioned against the misuse of AI technologies, notably through manipulation of humanitarian issues that affect the lives of peoples. In this context, he referred to the persistent AI-enhanced aggression against the Gaza Strip and the Lebanese Republic.
Al Maawalistressed the need to unify efforts and take all possible measures to stop the violations and massacres in the State of Palestine and the Lebanese Republic.
“The IPU mission is not limited to enhancing dialogue among parliaments, but rather it extends to address all forms of aggression and injustice that threaten international stability, challenge the rights of peoples and threaten global peace,” Al Maawali said.
