Oman takes part in UNESCO Executive Board meetings

Paris: The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 220th session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The meeting is being held in Paris until 23 October 2024.

The Omani side is represented by Ambassador Amna Salim Rashid Al Balushi, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the UNESCO.

In her speech before the council, Amna Al Balushi reaffirmed Oman’s steadfast commitment to support peace, security and stability in the world. She stressed the significance of promoting dialogue, tolerance and respect for human rights.

Al Balushi urged the UNESCO to enhance programmes that promote intercultural dialogue and combat hate.

Speaking about the organisation’s budget programme for the period 2026-2029, Amna Al Balushi underscored the significane of supporting field offices to help them effectively meet the needs of member states. She also underlined the crucial role of education in Oman and its support for UNESCO's efforts to address climate change and introduce green education and technical training.

Al Balushi called for increased investments within the purviews of UNESCO’s action, notably in preserving heritage and supporting innovative industries. She also stressed the importance of financial sustainability and effective risk management within the organisation.

The 220th session is attended by representatives of 58 member states, including Oman, whose membership extends until 2027.
