Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman employs all available capabilities and potentials to preserve the identity of the Omani society and to cement the values and nurture the children on feeling proud of the same.
The Ministry of Education stressed on the concepts, knowledge, skills, their significance and association with the values which are related to economic and social development of society.
Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Chairman of the Education and Research Committee at the State Council, said that the preservation of the nations for their cultural and national identities represent key challenges.
He said that the educational institutions assume the great responsibility of preserving the content of heritage, crafts, customs and traditions.
The private and public educational establishments play a key role in showcasing and fostering the Omani heritage, which is rich in various arts related to the religious and social events.
He said that there are many ways that can be followed by the general education establishments for linking the children with their heritage, customs, traditions and traditional crafts, which would boost their Omani identity and make them feel proud of their history and cultural heritage.
The various school subjects and not just history, geography and national education, should handle subjects related to the Omani heritage, he said, adding that Arabic Language, Mathematics and science subjects could also handle heritage to provide students with adequate knowledge.
He said that the Citizenship Department, established at the Ministry, seeks to boost the national identity for students. The Religious Culture Division is established at the Islamic Education Department and is concerned with religious awareness for students and fostering good values and the culture of tolerance, he added.
