Muscat: The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) is fully prepared to host the West Asian Badminton Junior Championship, which is set to begin on Monday, October 7, at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC).
Running until Saturday, the tournament will feature 60 of the best young players from across West Asia, including athletes from Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Syria, and the host nation, Oman. Competitors will showcase their skills across a variety of singles and doubles events, with Under-15 and Under-17 age categories for both boys and girls.
The tournament, organised by ORSC in collaboration with the West Asian Badminton Federation, is being held under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth.
The championship will offer a unique platform for rising badminton talent in the region to demonstrate their potential in boys’ and girls’ singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
Preparations in full swing
As the countdown to the championship begins, the organising committee is working tirelessly to ensure the event runs smoothly. Nasser al Sulaimani, Event Director, said that all subcommittees are fully prepared. “We have established dedicated teams focused on key areas such as coordination, technical management, media, finance, marketing, and overall event management. Our teams have worked tirelessly to ensure every detail is covered for this landmark event,” he said.
Al Sulaimani extended his gratitude to the key partners supporting the event, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, Royal Oman Police, Ministry of Information, Oman Airports, and several private sector sponsors. This collaborative effort has been crucial to making the tournament a success and elevating Oman’s presence on the regional sports stage.
Oman teams eye strong performance
Oman’s national badminton team, comprising nine talented players (eight males and one female), is entering the tournament with high hopes. Under the guidance of coach Hamad al Maqbali, the athletes have been undergoing intensive training, focusing on securing standout performances in both singles and doubles events. Competing in the U-15 and U-17 categories, the team is determined to make a mark.
