Four people killed in Bangladesh after train derailment

Dhaka: At least four people were killed and over one hundred were injured when an intercity train derailed in the Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh last night, state media reported.

According to an official speaking to international media, one of the carriages of the Upaban Express train heading to Dhaka from Sylhet city fell into a canal while two others fell close to the canal's banks.

According to the official, rescue services were at the scene. He said the death toll may rise.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Dhaka: Local authorities revealed the identifies of four people killed when a trail derailed in the Mouvlibazar district of Bangladesh Sunday night, according to state media.

The deceased were named as Kawsar,35, Manwara Parvin, 48, Fahmida Yasmin Eva, 20 and Sanjida Akter, 20.

Manwara Parvin, a resident of Kulaura Municipality, was with her daughter and sister in the train at the time of the accident. The windows shattered and she died on the spot with injuries to her head, face and body.

Fahmida Yeasmin, was a resident of the Abdullahpur area of Moglabazar Police Station. She was an intern nurse at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

“Fahmida was on her way to Dhaka from Sylhet for a nursing training. We rushed to the hospital after being informed about the accident, later, we identified her among the bodies”, Abdul Hamid, brother of the victim told state media.

Sanjida Akter was identified by a relative and local officials. She was also an intern nurse at the MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Kawsar was a resident of the Sunamganj district.

Over 100 passengers were injured in the fatal accident. Among them, 20 are in critical condition.
