Muscat: Former Oman head coach Rasheed Jaber has been named on Thursday to succeed Czech Jaroslav Silhavy as the Red Warriors manager.
On a day of hectic activities at the Oman Football Association (OFA), the Sultanate's football governing body earlier in the morning axed Silhavy and within hours named Oman's Jaber as successor.
Oman had a disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA Asian Qualifiers third round Group B as they lost to Iraq in Basra and then fell to South Korea at home.
Oman's next assignments are against Kuwait (October 10) and Jordan (October 15), respectively. The two games will be followed by games against Palestine (November 14) and Iraq (November 19).
Jaber, a well-known face in Oman, has had tremendous success at club level and also guided Oman at the international level. Jaber led Seeb to the AFC Cup title, the only time an Omani club has tasted success at the continental level in 2022.
Jaber had earlier led Oman at the 2002 Gulf Cup in Saudi Arabia and also met domestic success with Dhofar and Al Nasr clubs.
