Conference to review Oman’s energy transformation plans

Muscat: The third edition of the “Oman Electricity and Energy Conference” will begin at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday, which reviews the mechanisms for implementing the Sultanate of Oman’s plans for energy transformation with local and international participation.

The conference will be attended by 60 speakers from electricity and energy fields from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, and the workshops will address topics such as network flexibility, energy storage systems, smart grid solutions, and the use of hydrogen in generating energy from electricity turbines, among others.

The opening of the conference will be sponsored by Dr. Khamis bin Saif Al Jabri, Head of the Follow-up Unit for the Implementation of Oman Vision 2040.

The conference, organised by the “Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers” and “Raya Services and Business Company” in partnership with Nama Group, aims to create an effective platform that contributes to building national cadres and competencies and exchanging technical expertise in addition to reviewing the latest developments in the energy sector.

The conference will discuss many subtopics, including the future of the sustainable energy sector, the development of transmission and distribution networks, access to energy efficiency, asset management, digital transformation and smart grids.

Over the course of three days, participants in the conference will review the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman in the field of energy transformation, reducing carbon emissions and securing energy supplies in a way that supports economic diversification paths.

The conference includes many working papers, visual presentations and specialised discussion sessions with the participation of experts and specialists from various concerned parties, in addition to a number of workshops that discuss the challenges facing the electricity and energy sectors.

Eng. Abdullah bin Suleiman Al-Wahaibi, Head of the Electricity and Energy Division at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, explained that this year’s conference will be held under the title “Mechanisms for Implementing the Sultanate’s Energy Transformation Plans” and review many important topics, including the latest developments and policies for the energy sector and others.

The conference will include an accompanying exhibition that includes the latest technologies and solutions in the energy and electricity sectors, in addition to an open platform for speakers from researchers and students to present their research and the results of their studies in this field.
