Muscat: The ‘Green Mountain Pomegranate Harvest’ event kicked off on Friday evening in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, as part of the ‘Romana’ event, and will continue until September 28.
Khalid bin Hamad Al Aghbari, Head of the Field Work Team at the Tourism Agricultural Development Company (Janaen), said: “The first day of harvesting of fruits during the second edition witnessed a great turnout of visitors from inside and outside the wilayat, and those neighbouring countries.”
He added: “The number of visitors to the ‘Romana’" event since its launch on July 4 until the end of Friday, September 13, exceeded 41,600 visitors. We are expecting an increase in turnout during the next two weeks due to the start of the pomegranate harvest season in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, which is one of the best times to visit the wilayat.”
He stressed that the second edition of the "Romana" event is one of the agricultural tourism initiatives and projects in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar aimed at spreading the culture of environmental-friendly agricultural tourism, and providing unique experiences to attract tourists, in addition to enhancing local added value.”
The head of the field work team at the Agricultural Tourism Development Company (Janaen) pointed out that the event is the first of its kind to provide an exceptional experience for visitors through a number of activities and events provided by a number of small and medium enterprises, through which they can enjoy a unique experience among the pomegranate trees.
It is worth noting that the pomegranate trees affiliated with the "Romana" project amount to about 667 trees during the second edition, and their production is expected to reach more than 8.5 tonnes this year.
