Muscat: Oman Summit on Materials, Corrosion and Technical Readiness kicked off in Muscat on Monday.

As many as 1,500 researchers are taking part in the three-day summit, which seeks to enhance innovation and cooperation in the field of preventing metal corrosion and preserving the sustainability of metal assets.

The summit will elaborate on the impact of corrosion on various industries, including marine, oil and gas industries.

It also looks into innovative strategies to protect metal assets from corrosion with the aim of cutting down economic losses resulting from corrosion.

The summit explores the latest solutions and technologies used in metal processing and paints, besides methods of insulation, monitoring, testing and material safety.

Specialised discussion panels and technical workshops will be organised as part of the summit, in addition to an exhibition featuring the latest innovations in the field.

Dr. Talal Al Nabhani, Director of Corrosion and Metals at Petroleum Development Oman, said: “The challenges facing the oil, gas and marine industries require innovative solutions and modern technologies to ensure long-term protection of infrastructure. The summit aims to develop these solutions through close cooperation between various sectors. The conference accompanying the summit will discuss the most important topics related to corrosion.”

Eng. Yahya bin Yousef Al Balushi, Senior Engineer at OQ Exploration and Production, said: “The company will highlight plastic pipelines and their resistance to rust, in addition to presenting a research paper on the importance of digitisation in the oil and gas sector, as OQ seeks to spread awareness about the need to take the precautions to avoid rust in the oil and gas sector.”
