Commerce Minister holds talks with British counterpart on FTA

Muscat: His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al-Yousef, the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, met via video call with His Excellency Douglas Alexander, the UK’s Minister of State for Trade Policy and Economic Security, to enhance cooperation between the two friendly nations in the trade and investment sectors.

During the meeting, HE Qais bin Mohammed Al-Yousef congratulated Douglas Alexander on his appointment as Minister of State for Trade Policy and Economic Security in the United Kingdom.

He expressed his wishes for success in his new role and further development and prosperity in the Omani-British friendship and cooperation.

The meeting included discussions on the growth indicators of bilateral trade and ways to enhance and increase trade exchanges and investments.

They also emphasised the importance of continuing negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United Kingdom. Several other topics of mutual interest were also discussed.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion emphasised that the United Kingdom is a key strategic partner for the Sultanate of Oman.

His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al-Yousef noted that the economic relations between the two friendly nations are witnessing significant growth, in line with their shared ambitions and the enhancement of bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen joint investment between the two countries and encourage direct investment in the available sectors and activities according to the laws and regulations in both countries, ensuring mutual benefit.
