Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, through Oman Vision 2040 aspires to make the Omani society proud of its identity, culture and citizenship.
The Sultanate has set a number of objectives to make the individuals responsible and aware of their rights and committed to their duties and to work on preserving the heritage of Oman.
Identity and citizenship are vital issues on which the school syllabuses were established worldwide. The identity and citizenship reflect the loyalty of students to serving their country.
The Ministry of Education said that the educational systems stress the importance of identity and citizenship when it comes to nurturing students and generations aware of their identity, families, society, their countries and the world.
The ministry stated that its new school plan includes initiation of a syllabus focusing on the concepts of identity and citizenship targeting the students at an early age.
The ministry stated that the syllabus of identity and citizenship stems from the requirements of Oman’s comprehensive development in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.
The issue of identity and citizenship also came in implementation of the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
The ministry added that the syllabus enhances preservation of the national identity and the Islamic values and principles and keeps abreast with the modern developments in the field, which aimed to boost the concepts of responsible citizenship.
The syllabus focuses on developing the learner’s ability to express himself/herself, and to excel.
The syllabus acquaints the students with the key national and religious occasions/ celebrations in Oman, the environment issues, the regulations at home, the school, society, among other matters.
