Work for maintenance of 20 falajs in Al Dhahirah Governorate completed

Ibri: The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Dhahirah Governorate has completed the maintenance of 20 falajs within the projects for maintenance of 100 falajs in the wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank at the cost of OMR 848,000.

The projects come within the keenness of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for preservation of water resources in the Sultanate of Oman.

Salim bin Ali Al Amrani, Director General of the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Dhahirah Governorate said the projects of maintenance of the falajs (Aflaj) came as the water channels have been affected due to the unusual weather condition in the governorate. He said that the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Dhahirah Governorate accords utmost care and attention for the falajs as they represent a key water resources for irrigation of the agricultural lands.

He said that the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Dhahirah Governorate has completed maintenance of 20 falajs within the maintenance plan while work is going on for maintenance of other 80 falajs.

Abdullah bin Hamad Al Jassasi, supervising on the falajs of Al Mabouth and Al Mafjour in the wilayat of Ibri, said that the falajs supply drinking water to villages and also help in irrigation, hence they play a key role in preserving the agricultural activity in the governorate.

It is worth mentioning that the number of falajs in the governorate amounted to 560.
