Weather update: Tropical Storm 'Asna' intensifies; 900 km off Oman coast

Muscat: The deep tropical depression in the Arabian Sea has developed into a tropical storm off the coast of Kachchh and the adjoining areas of Pakistan and has been named 'Asna', the Civil Aviation Authority (CA) said in its last update.

This is the first cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea in August since 1976. 

According to CAA:

1) The wind speed is ranging between 34-40 knots (approximately 40-46 mph), and is currently 920 km (570 miles) away from Oman Coasts.

2) The closest rainy clouds are at a distance of 760 km.

3) The direction of the storm is Westward toward Oman Sea and its location is 23.4 ° N 68.4 °F.

4) The probability of the storm intensifying further is being considered as medium.
