Muscat: The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) is pleased to announce that Peter Lee officially assumed the role of School Director as of July 1, 2024. Mr. Lee steps into this leadership role following the departure of Kevin Schafer from the directorship at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Mr. Lee brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having been an integral part of the TAISM community for 19 years. Previously serving as the Middle School Principal, Mr. Lee has been a key figure in fostering a school climate emphasizing community, wellness, and inclusivity. His dedication to creating an environment of belonging and mutual respect is evident in his daily interactions with students, staff, and parents.
In 2022, Peter was honored as one of only two international school educators to receive the prestigious National Distinguished Principals Award from the U.S.-based National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). This accolade was awarded at a ceremony in Washington DC, recognizing his outstanding leadership and contribution to education at the international level.
Educated at Gustavus Adolphus College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Peter also holds a Master’s in Education from St. Mary’s University and an Ed.S. in Education Leadership from Capella University. His leadership is marked by a dedication to excellence and a deep commitment to the educational and personal development of every student.
"Finding the right fit for the leadership role of School Director at TAISM is no small task," says Fawzi Mushantaf, Chair of the TAISM Board of Directors. "An extensive recruitment and selection process, led by our Board and international consultants over the course of ___ months, ensured we chose the best leader for our community. Peter Lee brings with him 19 years of dedicated service at TAISM and a deep familiarity with the American educational system. His experience and understanding of our community make him uniquely qualified to lead the school into its next chapter."
About his new role, Peter shares: “At TAISM you can see an essential commitment to fostering close-knit community, and a phrase shared on t-shirts and in the hallways: “You belong here.” This value is personal to me as my own children grew up in the unique family atmosphere TAISM provides, within the wider peace and safety of Oman. I look forward to collaborating with our families, students, and staff as we continue to foster an environment of lifelong learning together.”
In addition to this leadership transition, TAISM is excited to announce significant upcoming developments. The construction of the new High School Science and Technology Center is progressing, with the state-of-the-art facility set to include advanced labs for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and a new Computer Science Lab. The new center will feature collaborative and flexible learning spaces designed to enhance educational experiences, with plans to move into these areas during the second half of the school year.
