Muscat: The Children's Public Library, for the first time implemented a variety of programmes and workshops in the city of Salalah, which comes as part of the Marifah programme in partnership with bp Oman.
The workshops were held at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center for Sports and Youth, where the library hosted the Bahraini storyteller and trainer Tufool Ahmed. The workshops included storytelling activities and specialized writing workshops aimed at developing creative and literary skills among children and youth. This programme is a valuable addition to the cultural activities in Salalah, contributing to the enhancement of culture and creativity through interactive educational activities.
Sara Al-Mamari, the administrative manager of the library, stated: "We are very pleased to expand the Marifah program to reach Salalah for the first time. Through these workshops, we aim to foster a love of reading and creativity among children and youth, and we look forward to providing a unique and enjoyable educational experience for the participants."
The Marifah programme, which is currently in its sixth edition and was first launched in 2018, aims to spread knowledge and creativity among children. It annually targets more than 1,200 participants from various governorates of the Sultanate and neighboring countries and conducts more than 44 educational workshops. This year the library has completed 36 workshops, benefiting a total of 1,376 children so far.
Ibrahim Al Hinai, social investment manager at bp Oman, Kuwait and Qatar, commented: “This partnership contributes to developing the knowledge and skills of children through a series of workshops, courses and events for children, parents and those interested in children’s literature. We believe that this is a core part of education and aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040 as well as our priorities at bp Oman in developing our local capabilities.”
