Oman participates in risk reduction meeting in Cairo

Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday took part in the second meeting of the Arab ministers entrusted with risk reduction affairs.

During the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Oman was represented by Abdullah Nasser Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

In his speech at the meeting, Al Rahbi stressed the importance of establishing a unified Arab mechanism to diminish the impacts of disasters and risks.

This stand, said Al Rahbi, constitutes an initiative that reflects a sincere desire to address common challenges and achieve positive outcomes that enhance cooperation between Arab countries to limit chances for the occurrence of disasters and risks.

Al Rahbi outlined the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman in the field of risk management and the country’s keenness to limit the scopes of disasters and mitigate their impacts.

Al Rahbi pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman has formed a working team from all relevant authorities to study the risks that could affect the country, including economic, social, health or other risks.

Following this study, a National Risk Register was compiled, said Al Rahbi, noting that “short-term and medium-term records of the National Risk Register have completed and that the team in charge is embarked on drafting long-term risk records.”
