Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is making remarkable strides in healthcare! The Ministry of Health's initiative to localise heart transplant services is a testament to the country's commitment to providing world-class medical care to its citizens.
The Ministry of Health has initiated preparations to localise the "heart transplant services" as part of the National Organ Transplant Program from 2023 to 2025.
The technical committee for heart transplantation in the National Organ Transplant Programme held today (Monday) its first meeting, chaired by H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health.
It is worth mentioning that the programme has activated the option for heart donation after death through the Ministry of Health's Shifa application.
Oman aims to perform heart transplants domestically by 2025. This initiative is part of a broader program focused on organ donation and transplantation.
The number of organ donors has grown significantly, with over 12,000 people registered in 2023.
This development will save lives and enhance the quality of life for patients with heart failure.
By prioritising organ donation and transplantation, Oman is not only improving the health of its citizens but also setting a commendable example for other countries in the region.
