Discussion on impact of AI on work environment

Salalah: The Ministry of Labour has organised a forum titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Future of Work” to discuss the impact of technological developments on the future of work, the challenges and opportunities introduced by new work patterns.

The two-day forum, held in Salalah, seeks to prepare manpower for rapid developments taking place in the work environment and augment the readiness of governments to accommodate AI and future skills.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and attended by Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour.

The objectives of the forum include: Increasing productivity and efficiency in the work environment, enhancing human capital in context of future challenges and updates in the digital age (that require increased competitiveness and improved quality of services), consolidating employee self-development by learning new technologies and achieving professional growth.

The event, held on the sidelines of the Labour Forum, includes four working sessions.

The first session discusses the impact of technological developments on the future of work (the challenges and opportunities of new work patterns); the second session focuses on capacity building; the third looks into the preparation of the workforce for rapid developments in the work environment; while the fourth session elaborates on the role of AI in improving the work environment.

Working papers presented at the forum deal with a variety of related determinants: The importance of mastering “AI engineering”, the advantages of ongoing education in dealing with changing scenarios in the environment and using AI to improve employee productivity.

The participants also consider better ways of using the AI ​​and data science platform, the significance of AI in achieving sustainable development and the role of government institutions in enhancing future skills and developing skills in a climate of renewable economy.
