Muscat: The Gulf Student Forum for Financial Culture, organised by the Ministry of Education, represented by the Khazna project to instill the principles of financial culture among school students.

This was in cooperation with the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, was launched on Sunday morning at the Rotana Salalah Resort in Dhofar Governorate under the slogan ‘Towards Building Financial Culture for School Students’ and will continue until Thursday.

The forum began with a welcoming speech delivered by Dr. Haifa Al-Maamari, Director of the Khazna project, to the participating students and their supervisors, during which she provided an introductory overview of the forum’s events and activities, represented in financial awareness and investment, and the production of promotional content for projects.

Ali Al-Lawati, a financial expert in investment and governance, presented a paper in the first session of the forum titled: ‘Concepts of Financial Culture’ in which he discussed the concept of culture, in general, and the intellectual methods, habits and standards acquired over time, which affect the interaction with others, in addition to the concept of financial education, and the reasons for the emergence of personal financial management at the family and global levels.

The second session addressed the topic of ‘Financial Awareness’, which discussed the importance of financial culture and the effects of the imbalance in financial knowledge.

Student Shahad Al Kuwari from Qatar said: “In this Gulf Student Forum, I learned the concept of financial culture, the elements that affect the cultures of the country, how to deal with other cultures, and how to learn about people’s opinions about their culture - in general. I also learned from the paper presented by Ali Al Lawati the correct concept of culture - whether it being Gulf, Arab, or international, in addition to some of the good behaviors of people.”

It is worth noting that the Khazna project aims to spread awareness and instill the principles of financial culture among school students.

It mainly aims to raise a financially aware generation, and consists of 19 diverse programs that include guides, documents, training and awareness programmes, and purposeful activities and events.
