Muscat: According to reports, protestors have entered the gates of Gono Bhaban on Monday, August 5, 2024, said ANI.

According to ANI, protesters opened the gates of the Gono Bhaban and entered the premises of the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina residence this afternoon: Bangladesh's The Daily Star reports.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly left the country amid rising protests by students, according to reports.

Hasina has left the capital, Dhaka in the face of mass protests demanding her resignation said a sourcce close to the embattled leader.

On Monday, the death toll had surpassed 90 after clashes between protesters and supporters of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government in one of the deadliest days in Bangladesh since anti-government demonstrations started.

The Interior Ministry declared an indefinite nationwide curfew from 6 p.m. local time, in the first such move since the protests started.

The student protests erupted nearly two months ago over a longstanding quota system for public sector jobs that favors descendants of ex-military personnel who fought for the country's independence from Pakistan in 1971, as well as other groups.
