Oman Air ranked second in world for best in-flight food

Muscat: Oman Air, the flag carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has long been a symbol of Omani hospitality in the skies.

Recently, the airline was recognised as the second-best in the world for its in-flight food.

This accolade came after MoneySuperMarket’s travel insurance team analysed over 27,000 passenger reviews of meals across more than 100 airlines.

Kuwait Airways claimed the top spot with an impressive average score of 8.58 out of 10 across all cabin classes. Their offerings range from multi-course meals in economy to lobster and beef in their ‘Royal Class’ service.

Oman Air followed closely with a score of 8.44, while Middle Eastern Airlines secured third place with a score of 8.39. Rounding out the top five were Air Algerie and Air BALTIC.

Oman Air has been lauded for serving some of the tastiest food thousands of feet above the ground. The airline’s commitment to enhancing its passengers’ inflight meal experience includes catering to a wide variety of dietary needs.

Middle Eastern airlines dominated the top spots in food rankings. Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad, and Gulf Air also received impressive scores, showcasing the region’s strength in providing exceptional in-flight dining experiences.

The survey also highlighted airlines with the most reviews. Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and British Airways were among the most heavily rated by travellers. Turkish Airlines achieved the highest score (7.8) among these heavily reviewed airlines.

The in-flight meal service is a significant factor in the luxury experience, especially with first-class flights costing three to four times more than economy fares.

Many first and business class providers, such as All Nippon Airways (ANA), offer an additional on-demand menu alongside their standard meal service, allowing passengers to order what they want, when they want.

For those seeking the best first-class dining experience, Swiss International Air Lines is the first choice, scoring 9 out of 10 among passengers. Other airlines scoring particularly high in the first-class meal rankings included Qantas (8.8), Lufthansa (8.7), China Airlines (8.6), Etihad Airways (8.4), and ANA (8.2).

For more budget-conscious travellers, Air Algerie (7.9) topped the passenger food rankings for economy class, followed by Romanian provider Tarom (7.8), Turkish Airlines (7.6), Aegean Airlines (7.6), Emirates (7.5), and Etihad (7.5).

Oman Air’s achievement in ranking second globally for its in-flight food is a testament to its dedication to providing an exceptional travel experience.

The airline continues to set high standards in the industry, ensuring that every journey is a culinary delight.
