Certificates of conformity use started by GCC

Muscat: Standardisation Authority of the GCC countries commenced from implementation of certificates of conformity issued by approved authorities from July 1.
This applies to commodities and products subject to the Gulf Conformity Logo currently applicable to children’s toys and low voltage electrical equipment and devices.
Nabil Amin Mula, Secretary General of the GCC Standardisation Authority stated that this system is one of the important initiatives of the authority to enhance the safety of the products traded in the markets and to achieve strategic objectives of protecting consumers and providing appropriate mechanism to the authorities concerned for verifying the conformity of products holding the Gulf Conformity Logo.
This will help concerned border surveillance and market officials to verify the safety of products imported into the member countries and the legitimacy of the conformity certificates.
He added that the information related to products will be available to consumers and enable them to verify all the details pertaining to the products such as its name, country of origin and manufacturing company. It will also enable consumers to review any upgrades.
The authority is working on electronic applications for smart phones through which the consumer can notify about the authenticity of products having Quick Response Code (QR-Code).
He emphasised that applying of this system will act as a passport for the safe products to enter the markets and facilitate their movement in the member countries.
