Dhofar's Khareef: A boon for Oman's tourism and heritage sectors

Muscat: The Dhofar Khareef season is proving to be a significant driver of tourism and economic growth in Oman. With its stunning natural beauty and unique monsoon climate, the region has attracted a growing number of visitors in recent years.

The surge in tourists has led to a boom in hotel construction and the development of tourist resorts. The number of hotel rooms is expected to reach 7,000 this year.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is focused on enhancing the visitor experience through various initiatives, including new exhibitions at Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the development of tourist sites like Al Baleed Beach.

The tourism sector's growth is positively impacting other economic sectors in Dhofar Governorate. Efforts are underway to extend the tourism season beyond Khareef, with initiatives like the "Sarb" season and the development of year-round tourist destinations.

The Ministry is committed to sustainable tourism practices, with plans to update the Frankincense Land Museum and develop the Jabal Samhan public breathing space.

Despite the positive outlook, the region faces challenges such as managing the increased tourist influx and preserving the natural environment. However, with a strategic approach and sustainable development plans, Dhofar has the potential to become a world-class tourist destination.
