Muscat: His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman has issued a statement on the shooting incident that occurred in Wadi Al Kabir area, Muscat Governorate on Monday, July 15, 2024.
The Grand Mufti said: "We were saddened by the event that took place in Wadi Al-Kabir among one of the communities residing in the Sultanate of Oman, killing a group of people, including a security man. This is blatant aggression that only breeds hatred and results in nothing but strife."
" Whatever the difference between the groups of the nation in perception and belief or in the practices of religious rituals, it must not lead to aggression by some against others in their religious sanctities. That the lands of worship and turning to God Almighty be a red line so that mutual respect prevails among everyone and that familiarity becomes an alternative to alienation, so that the souls of the nation are in harmony with each other and cooperate in what is for the good of all."
" I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and I ask God for wellness for the wounded and injured. In this regard, we cannot fail to praise the national efforts of all security and military agencies, urging everyone to cooperate with them in order to preserve the nation’s gains and the safety of society, " the statement added.
Royal Oman Police (ROP), previously said that the shooting incident resulted in the death of five people, the martyrdom of a policeman, and the death of the three perpetrators, in addition to the injury of 28 people of different nationalities, including 4 people while performing their national duty: policemen, members of the Civil Defence and Ambulances Authority. They were transferred to health institutions to receive treatment. Investigation and research into the circumstances of the incident continue.
