Oman Sail National Team Summer Training Camp prepares 20 sailors for future competition

Muscat – The twenty members of Oman Sail’s National Sailing Team will take part in a month-long summer training camp in Ras Al Hadd as they prepare for a busy winter season on the water. Training focuses on three classes – Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 – with expert coaches on-site to guide the young sailors to the next level of their development.

Oman Sail aims to maximise the impact of the specialised training and give sailors in each class the opportunity to new tactical and technical elements of sailing ahead of their next regatta. Training begins in Ras Al Hadd on 16 July 2024 and runs through until 15 August 2024 under the guidance of Sultan Al Zadjali, Oman Sail’s Assistant Youth Head Coach.

Abdulaziz Al Shidi, Oman Sail’s Acting Director of Sailing, said, “Regular training camps are the ideal way to ensure sailors approach competition in the best physical and mental condition. We are always looking for continuous improvement and this is also a chance to teach new skills, work on any areas of weakness and test their abilities in new conditions – such as those found in Ras Al Hadd. There is a busy winter season ahead, with the Oman National Sailing Championships and Mussanah Race Week, so we are looking forward to making progress as a team ahead of these important events.”

Sultan Al Zadjali, Oman Sail’s Assistant Youth Head Coach, added, “Specialised training camps with access to our highly-qualified group of coaches allows the young sailors to focus on preparing for the upcoming regattas. We have a strong squad of sailors and a busy season approaching, so being able to head to Ras Al Hadd ahead of these events is part of our efforts to perform at our very best.”

The Oman National Sailing Championships gets underway from 18-22 September. This is followed by Mussanah Race Week from 1-8 October 2024 where Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, and the para inclusive RS Venture Connect class sailors from around the world head to Oman for the 13th edition of the event.
