Muscat: The number of fish factories in the Sultanate of Oman by the end of 2023 reached 114 that provide value-added fish products, achieve sustainable development and a diversified economy, and enhance innovation in the fish sector in accordance with the aspirations and goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources confirmed that the Sultanate is witnessing remarkable growth in the fish industry sector, which is considered one of the basic and important axes in the fish wealth sector and its importance in achieving food security and exploiting fish resources.
The Ministry indicated that 81 factories have been granted a fish quality control and export certificate, as this certificate helps ensure that manufactured fish products adhere to international standards related to the quality and safety of food products and thereby enhances the reputation of manufactured products to contribute to opening doors to export opportunities to global markets.
The Ministry indicated that fish manufacturing activities in the Sultanate of Oman include a variety of projects that work on processing, packing and freezing fish fillets, canning fish, and manufacturing various food products from aquatic resources, such as fish burgers and fish fingers, and other fish projects that meet the local and foreign needs of consumers for fish products.
