MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) has selected four athletes for the forthcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Paris Olympics is scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11 with over 10,500 athletes taking part.
Oman’s Ali Anwar Al Balushi is the only athlete to have qualified for the Games in the 100m men's event based on his world rankings.
The other athletes confirmed to represent Oman at the Games include woman sprinter Mazoon Al Alawi (100m), Issa Al Adawi (swimming) and Said Al Khatri (shooting).
In this edition of the Games, around 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are set to compete besides the ‘Individual Neutral Athletes’ and the Refugee Olympic Team.
For Mazoon, this will be the third Olympics, having competed at the Rio de Janeiro (2016) and the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Al Adawi will compete in the 100m freestyle event and this will be his second participation at the Olympics, the previous being at Tokyo 2020.
Said Al Khatri will be the other participant as he would be competing in the men’s trap shooting event. This will be his maiden participation at the Summer Olympics.
Except for Al Balushi, the other three have made it to the Games based on NOC’s universality quota spots.
This will be Oman’s 11the appearance at the Summer Olympics, the first being in 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
