Muscat: National Skydiving Team of the Royal Army of Oman on Friday bagged first place in the Arab and Gulf countries categories, third in Asia and tenth in the world at the conclusion of the 2024 World Military Skydiving Championship (SESM) competitions, in the city of Sölnok in the Republic of Hungary. The competitions were held over a period of 10 days.
The World Military Skydiving Championship (SESM), in its forty-sixth edition, witnessed the participation of more than 400 jumpers representing more than 40 countries around the world, as the national skydiving team achieved advanced positions within its various rounds, which witnessed a lot of competition.
The high technical levels and accuracy in hitting the target were achieved by the participants.
This participation of the National Free Jumping Team comes within the framework of the rehabilitation and training plans pursued by the leadership of the Royal Army of Oman to compete for military sports titles, enhance the level of performance, physical fitness, and technical skills in regional and international forums.
Parachutist Lieutenant Colonel Saif bin Salem Al-Tobi, head of the National Skydiving Team delegation, said: “The National Skydiving Team participated in this championship alongside 45 teams from various countries of the world. Our team began its initial preparations on home soil, then moved to an external training camp in the Republic of Slovenia, after which they participated in the European Cup Championship (Bled) in the Republic of Slovenia in preparation for this parachute event.”
He added that the national freediving team made great efforts and presented a respectable performance during the competition rounds, achieving good results at the regional and global level.”
Captain Parachutist Abdul Rahim bin Muftah Al Riyami, leader of the National Skydiving Team, said: “The National Skydiving Team of the Royal Army of Oman was able to add another feather to its list of achievements. With its high skills, the team was able to obtain tenth place globally in the target accuracy game, in the 46th session of the World Military Championship (SISM) in the Republic of Hungary. It ranked third in Asia and first in the Gulf and Arab countries.”
