No permission required to run offers and promotions in Oman

Muscat: In a drive aimed at enhancing the business environment, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) announced that the commercial establishments in Oman no longer need prior permission from the ministry to run promotions and offers.

The decision, made in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Authority, is designed to stimulate commercial activities, enhance market competitiveness, and provide products at reasonable prices, says the commerce ministry.

But some strings are attached to the discount and promotion offers: The discounts and promotional offers should not exceed 3 consecutive days in a week .

Moreover, promotions should not be offered more than three times a month and the maximum amount of discount is 30%.

While prior permission is no longer required for offering rebates, the companies must notify the Consumer Protection Authority if they intend to offer discounts or offers.

The commerce ministry's initiative aims to create an environment that benefits both businesses and consumers in Oman.
