Dhofar Governorate ready for Khareef season this year

Salalah: The Directorate General of Culture, Sports and Youth in Dhofar Governorate is fully geared up to implement its various programmes targeting different age groups during the Khareef season this year.

Through these activities, the Directorate seeks to attract a large number of tourists in cooperation and partnership with various sectors in the governorate.

Regarding the Directorate’s readiness to launch its programmes during the Dhofar Khareef season 2024, the Director General of the Directorate General of Culture, Sports and Youth in Dhofar Governorate, said that the team has been working in the past period to prepare various facilities to host the various events.

He added that the events programme prepared by the Directorate aims to attract the largest number of visitors to the Dhofar Khareef season this year, targeting more than 300,000 visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

He explained that the focus during the preparation of this year’s programme is on diversity and inclusiveness in cultural, sports and youth activities through its objectives, which are represented in cultural sports projects, hosting approximately 100 activities for governmental, private and civil institutions, and equipping 28 facilities, in addition to 20 sports facilities and halls in various wilayats with the aim of activating various sectors in the wilayats of the governorate.

He added that this year’s programme includes 20 cultural events distributed among workshops, specialised programmes, art exhibitions, and the Dhofar Theatre Festival, in addition to cultural events that will be implemented in various wilayats with the aim of nurturing and developing creative talents, refining their talents, highlighting their artistic capabilities, and strengthening the partnership among community institutions.

In the sports and youth sector, he said that the sector will witness this year 34 sports programmes and various women’s activities, including sports, competitions and specific courses that will be implemented in the directorate’s facilities and sports centres in the various states of the governorate, pointing out that there are many initiatives that will be implemented in the sports sector including e 13 various sporting events, notably the football tournament for the public and private sectors, the hockey tournament for youth clubs, the chess tournament and the beach games tournament, in addition to the sports caravan.
