MUMBAI: The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) announced a hefty prize money for team India for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday.
India won their second T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. India won the match by seven runs and ended their 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy.
Following the historic triumph by the Men in Blue, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a hefty prize money for the entire team of INR 1.25 billion including the players, coaches and the entire support staff.
Jay Shah made the announcement on his X account while congratulating the entire team for their outstanding achievement. “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!,” wrote Jay Shah on his X account.
The ICC (International Cricket Council) had already announced a record prize pool of US$11.25 million for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Being the winners of the competition, India are set to receive US$2.45 million along with added bonuses which is the highest-ever amount awarded in the tournament's history.
On the other hand, South Africa will get $1.28 million for finishing as the runner-up of the competition. Along with it, teams were also awarded an extra US$31,154 for winning each match.
