Muscat: The Ministry of Health on Monday launched the first edition of the “National Guideline for Medical and Surgical Sterilisation”. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

The ceremony included a visual presentation on the history of sterilisation in the Sultanate of Oman, its stages of development and the achievements made in this field.

It also outlined the steps made to Omani health workers in accordance with the latest international standards.

Dr. Amal bint Saif Al-Maani, Director General of Disease Surveillance and Control at the Ministry of Health, reviewed the importance of sterilisation services for medical and surgical instruments used in health institutions and their effective role in protecting all patients.

Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al-Quyoudi, Director of the Prevention and Infection Control Department at the Ministry of Health, gave a visual presentation on the most important stages of development of sterilisation services in the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Health’s interest in sterilisation to be a section of the Prevention and Infection Control Department, for providing education and training to raise the quality of services and patients’ safety.

He reviewed the most important achievements during the past period, including the start of a diploma programme for sterilisation technicians in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour. The issuance of the National Guide for Medical and Surgical Sterilisation is also one of the most important building blocks of the sterilisation programme in the Sultanate of Oman.

The head of the Sterilisation Services Department at the Ministry of Health, presented an interactive session using artificial intelligence technology for a virtual character. This technology was developed for the first time in the Ministry of Health to be used as a research tool in the national directory. for medical and surgical sterilisation.
