Oman to celebrate International Seafarers’ Day on Monday

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, will celebrate World Seafarers’ Day on Monday, under the aegis of Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Zaabi, Secretary General at the Ministry of Defence.

The annual celebration of International Seafarers’ Day comes as an appreciation by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for the rich maritime history of the Sultanate of Oman and an affirmation of the glorious role of seafarers working in this sector.

It also comes from the Ministry’s belief in the important role of maritime affairs, enhancing its economic role, and stimulating its contribution to the local product, in addition to its keenness to boost employment.

In addition to the Ministry’s speech, the ceremony includes a review of the achievements of the maritime sector in the Sultanate of Oman, holding an accompanying exhibition for the participating entities, holding dialogue and discussion sessions, reviewing specialised working papers, and honoring the sponsors and distinguished workers in the maritime sector.

It is noteworthy that the International Maritime Organisation has approved the annual celebration of World Seafarers’ Day to highlight the desired role of this important sector.
