Jail term, OMR 1,000 fine for two animal smugglers caught in Dhofar

Muscat: Two people were imprisoned for a year and fined OMR 1,000 for smuggling several wild animals in Dhofar Governorate.

 The Court of Appeal in Salalah issued a ruling convicting two people from one of the neighbouring countries on charges of participating with others in smuggling several wild animals, some of which are listed in Appendix (1) of the Natural Reserves and Wildlife Conservation Law No. (6/2003). The sentence was imposed with imprisonment for one year and a fine of OMR 1,000 for each of them, and the confiscation of the animals and seized items.

The Environment Authority calls on everyone to preserve the natural environment's elements to avoid being held legally accountable.
