Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) advanced 92 places and ranked 362, achieving its best ranking in the QS World University Ranking (QS).
SQU witnessed a significant increase in several indicators in QS, including: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Employment Outcomes, and the Sustainability.
The university’s investment in its close and long-standing relationships with collaborating academics and researchers from various countries around the world, and through the academic staff’s contribution to colleges and research centers, has been reflected positively in the rise in the academic reputation indictor. In addition, the employment sector is an essential partner in this achievement.
Considering that, the coordination and direct communication with the National Records System of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the National Employment Program contributed significantly to improving the indicators of employer reputation and employment outcomes.
The Sustainability indicator, which is a new sub-ranking, was added to the QS for the year 2025. The university ranked 286 globally in the QS Sustainability Ranking for the year 2024, which reflects the university’s efforts in achieving the goals of sustainable development in the Sultanate of Oman, especially in the field of social and environmental development and its policies.
HH Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice Chancellor of SQU expressed his pride on this significant progress, noting the importance of this ranking in aligning the university with Oman Vision 2040. He explained that the university achieved its first strategic goal within the Oman Vision 2040 to be among the top 500 universities around the world by 2030. This progress puts it on the right track to achieve the second strategic goal.
He also expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the team of the Project of Enhancing the University’s Ranking in the International Ranking of Universities, as well as the various entities and units of the university for this achievement.
HH Sayyeda Dr. Mona bint Fahd Al Said, SQU Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Project of Enhancing the University’s Ranking in the International Ranking of Universities, expressed her gratitude for the university on obtaining this significant progress in order to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
She indicated that the university’s achievement of this advanced position constitutes one of the most important foundations that highlight its true position and strategic role in the international arena. She also underscored the importance of the university’s sustainability in dedicating the efforts and continuous improvement in applying the best practices that would serve the SQU’s global ranking.
This ranking is an important step towards achieving more achievements in the future, and emphasizes the position of Sultan Qaboos University as one of the most prominent educational institutions in the world.
The QS Ranking institution analyzed data of 5,663 international universities from 106 countries. 1,503 universities were included in the 2025 global rankings, and 23 new universities are added this year (2024).
