Muscat: The rise in temperatures has forced Indian Schools to reduce their opening hours or to shift to online classes. Speaking to the Times of Oman, Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman of the board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman, said: “We have asked all Indian Schools to reduce their timing or shift to online based on their convenience.”
In a circular to the parents, Indian School Muscat said: “Due to extreme weather conditions, the School Management has decided to reschedule the school timings from Tuesday, June 4 to Thursday, June 6, 2024.”
The class timings of KG I and KG II will be from 8. 15 am to 10.30 am, Class I to IV will be from 7.50 am to 10.30 am, Classes V to VIII will be from 7.10 am to 12.00 noon, and Classes IX to XII will be from 7.10 a.m. to 12.00 noon.
In a circular to parents, Indian School Bausher, said: “Considering the extreme heat conditions prevailing in Oman and prioritising the well-being of our students, we are implementing some changes to our academic schedule.” The circular further said, “Today, 3rd June 2024, will be the last working day for students from KG to Grade V and Online Sessions for Grades VI and above.” The school also said, “We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in these challenging weather conditions. Wishing all our students a happy and safe summer vacation!”
According to the Oman Meteorology Department, Hamra Ad Duru station in Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded the highest temperature in the Sultanate of Oman on Sunday, June 2, 2024, nearly 50 degrees Celsius.
According to the data shown by Oman Meteorology, Hamra Ad Duru station in Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded 49.3 degrees Celsius as the highest temperature in the last 24 hours, followed by Fahud station in Al Wusta Governorate with 49.0 degrees Celsius and Sunaynah station in Al Buraimi Governorate with 48.5 degrees Celsius.
While Ibri station in Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded 48.3 degrees Celsius, 48.2 degrees Celsius in Liwa station, and 48.0 degrees Celsius in Sohar station in North Al Batinah Governorate, Barka station in South Al Batinah Governorate registered 47.9 degrees Celsius and 47.6 degrees Celsius in Saham station in North Al Batinah Governorate.
