Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman won 3 global health awards this year for its outstanding efforts in health research and work and its service to society in various medical fields through programs at the seventy-seventh meeting of the World Health Organization.
The Sultanate of Oman is the first country in the Eastern Mediterranean to have its health personnel receive three awards from the World Health Organisation simultaneously.
Badr bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of the Disease Control Department at the Ministry of Health, received the Dr. Lee Jong-wook Memorial Award for Public Health presented by the World Health Organization.
Dr Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Wahaibi, Senior Consultant in Family and Community Medicine from the Ministry of Health received the “His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Award for research in the fields of Healthcare for the elderly and Health Promotion presented by the World Health Organisation.
Meanwhile, Dr Jamila bint Tayseer Al Abri, Director of the Department of Women and Children’s Health at the Ministry of Health, won the Ihsan Daghramji Award for Family Health, presented by the World Health Organisation.
The awards presentation, which was held in Geneva on the sidelines of the seventy-seventh meeting of the World Health Organisation, was attended by His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Planning and Organisation.
These awards are a symbol of loyalty, gratitude, and appreciation for the contributions and strenuous efforts to achieve comprehensive development in accordance with values, customs, professional and humanitarian commitments, and health-related goals within the process of progress toward achieving the seventeen global goals for sustainable development.
