Oman wins 3 global health awards from the World Health Organization

Geneva: Medical personnel from the Sultanate of Oman won health awards for this year for the programmes at the seventy-seventh meeting of the World Health Organization. They are awarded to distinguished people who have made outstanding efforts in research and health work for serving the community in various medical fields.

The Sultanate of Oman is the first country in the Eastern Mediterranean to have received three awards at the same time from the World Health Organization.

The awards presentation, which was held today in Geneva on the sidelines of the seventy-seventh meeting of the World Health Organization, was attended by Dr Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

Badr bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of the Disease Control Department at the Ministry of Health, received Dr. Lee Jong-wook Memorial Award for Public Health presented by the World Health Organization.

 Dr. Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Wahaibi, Senior Consultant in Family and Community Medicine from the Ministry of Health, received “His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Award - may God rest his soul - for research in the fields of healthcare for the elderly and health promotion presented by the World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jamila bint Tayseer Al Abri, Director of the Department of Women and Children’s Health at the Ministry of Health, won the Ihsan Daghramji Award for Family Health, presented by the World Health Organization.

The awards presentation, which was held in Geneva on the sidelines of the seventy-seventh meeting of the World Health Organization, was attended by Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, and Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Planning and Organization.

These awards are a symbol of loyalty, gratitude and appreciation for the world’s contributions and strenuous efforts to achieve comprehensive development in accordance with values, customs, professionalism and humanitarian commitments and health-related goals to achieve the seventeen global goals for sustainable development.
