Muscat: The heart and catheterization team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in the University Medical City succeeded in performing innovative, one-of-a-kind operations to close interatrial hernia (PFO) in the heart using intracardiac imaging (ICE) technology without the need for transesophageal imaging (TEE).
This pioneering technique was performed by the cardiac and catheterization team led by Dr. Fahd Al Kindi, Senior Consultant and Head of the Catheterization Unit, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ismaili, cardiologist and catheterization consultant. It was performed without the need for deep or complete anesthesia.
The unique technique allowed the patients to leave the hospital on the same day or the day after the operation.
