Recognising State of Palestine is historic move: Ambassador of Ireland to Oman

Muscat: Gerry Cunningham, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland appointed to the Sultanate of Oman, underscored the firm relations between the two countries, especially in cultural and education fields.

This was stated in an interview with Oman News Agency (ONA) in which he said that he is keen to enhance bilateral relations. The two countries, he added, have many opportunities that can be developed in the trade field by utilizing the two countries’ components in areas of agriculture, energy, renewable energy and green hydrogen.

Oman, the ambassador said, is a “tremendous” destination for tourists from Ireland with its diverse tourist attractions, such as the Royal Opera House Muscat.

Moreover, the ambassador noted that the Republic of Ireland’s recognition of the State of Palestine is considered a historic step for the people of Ireland.

Recognition of the State of Palestine was a matter of time, the ambassador affirmed.

He added that there are ongoing talks in Europe, which could result in more countries recognizing the State of Palestine, especially after the recent attack on a refugee camp in Rafah.
