Muscat: Nasser Al Zaabi from Saham Club emerged singles champion in the 2024 Oman Junior Table Tennis Championship after he defeated his teammate Ali Al Ajmi 3-0 in the final at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Friday.
Ibri Club were crowned champion in teams' championship after they garnered ten points to edge Saham by a point for the gold. Salalah Club won the bronze with eight points. A total of seven clubs - Ibri, Sohar, Quriyat, Rustaq, Salalah, Seeb and Saham - participated in the team event .
As many as 27 players took part in the singles category with the players put in seven groups. The top two players from each group advanced to the round of 16 knockout stage.
Nasser defeated Nasser Al Balushi in the quarterfinals and then went on to beat Ali Al Rawahi in the semifinals.
Nasser was also instrumental in his club finishing second in teams' event.
In the bronze medal playoff game, Moayyed Al Mutawa from Salalah beat Ali Al Rawahi from Ibri 3-0 .
Oman’s national head coach Omid Shams Sharbabki and the women’s head coach Fatemeh Kivani were present to watch the games and scout for junior team players for the national team.
In the teams' competition, Ibri won all their matches with victories against Saham (3-1), Quriyat (3-0), Seeb (3-0), Salalah (3-0) and Rustaq (3-0) clubs .
