Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, today chaired the meeting of the Executive Office of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). The meeting of this 7th session of the UNEA’s executive bureau was held via video conferencing.
The meeting aimed at familiarising members of the Executive Office about the roles and responsibilities assigned to them during the 7th session of the UNEA.
The meeting touched on means of adopting a roadmap for the tasks of the Executive Office, in addition to the methodology of preparing topics for the 7th session of the Assembly. The members also reviewed a “Subject Assessment” draft document designed to generate benefits from the previous session.
Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, underscored the significance of the global community acting as one team to take important decisions amid environmental crises impacting many parts of the world.
For her part, Anger Anderson, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, underlined the importance of the current session and spoke about the role of the UNEA and the projects it undertakes.
The meeting approved the proposed agenda and reviewed the programme of functioning of the UNEA Executive Office during the Sultanate of Oman’s presidency of the current session (2024-2025).
