Muscat: Nationals and residents have been warned by police to be wary of calls from people claiming they have won a prize.
Royal Oman Police (ROP) warned about suspicious calls from within the Sultanate claiming that victims won a cash prize while asking to reveal bank account information.
A senior ROP official from the Department of Combating Financial Crimes, from the Directorate General of Inquiries and Investigations, said, "Some nationals and residents are receiving calls from unknown persons that tell them that they won a cash prize from a telecommunications company in the Sultanate."
"To claim the prize they would ask the victims to for their bank account number and identification number. They would then enter the bank applications and accounts to withdraw all the money in that account," explained the official.
The Directorate General of Inquiries and Investigations stresses the importance of not giving away personal information or answering suspicious calls.
