Salalah: About 333,000 people visited the Governorate of Dhofar during the Khareef “Monsoon Season” from June 21 to August 1, according to latest data.
Data from Khareef Salalah 2016’s Visitors Survey conducted by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) also reflected an increase in the number of visitors, compared with the same period in 2015, when about 246,269 visitors visited the festival, showing a 35.2 per cent jump.

Omanis came in first place in terms of the number of visitors by nationality, with about 239,388 Omanis constituting 71.9 per cent of the total visitors. The number of visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries stood at 50,515, or 15.2 per cent of the total number of non-Omani visitors. The number of Emiratis was the highest, followed by Saudis and Qataris.
The statistics also indicated that 83.2 per cent of the Khareef visitors entered the Governorate of Dhofar via land posts, compared with 16.8 per cent, who came by air. Khareef Salalah 2016 Visitors Survey will continue until September 21.
