Salalah: Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities on Wednesday celebrated the opening of a building for the autism unit (Salalah Autism Centre). The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.
The opening included a visual presentation by OQ Salalah, which funded the project as part of its efforts to strengthen its partnership with the Ministry of Social Development. The project also promotes the company’s community support initiatives aimed at empowering autistic children and integrating them into society.
Omaima Hassan Al Nahdi, Head of Al Wafa Centre in Salalah, said that the facility features a broad range of rehabilitation equipment that will help extend special education to 80 autistic children, as well as physical and psychological rehabilitation.
Salalah Autism Centre will also help spread awareness among members of society about the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The autism centre's building, which occupies an area of 1,550 square metres, will provide a safe environment of therapy for autistic children, to be groomed by a highly qualified team of technicians and specialists who have extensive experience in the field of ASD.
Besides therapeutic assistance, the centre also provides support for families of autistic children, advising them about standard ways to deal with disorders and adapt to this type of disability.
