Oman sailors bag six more medals at GCC Youth Games in UAE

Muscat: It was Oman sailors’ day out on Sunday as the sailing events of the inaugural GCC Youth Games concluded at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.

Oman sailors excelled in all the classes as they won six more medals, including two gold medals to add to the gold the Optimist team had won in the team event two days back.

Following six more medals on Sunday, Oman’s overall tally rose to 38.

On Sunday, Abdul Al Qasmi clinched the gold in the ILCA4 class while the second gold of the day came when Elyas Al Fadali won the title in ILCA6 class. Elyas teammate, Hatem Al Araimi, bagged a bronze in ILCA6 class.

Tamim Al Balushi, who played a key role in the team gold in Optimist class clinched two medals on Sunday winning silver medals in two of Optimist class.

Tarteel Al Hasani won a bronze in the girls’ Optimist category to round off a successful day.

Elsewhere, Oman handball team lost to Saudi Arabia 38-24 in Sharjah. The winners led 20-13.

Also, in volleyball, Kuwait beat Oman 25-12, 25-16, 25-13 in Dubai.

Oman paddlers will begin their campaign in table tennis from April 23 at Shabab Al Ahly Club hall in Dubai.

The team comprises four boys - Ahmed Al Riyami, Ali Al Rawahi, Luqman Al Farsi, Nasser Al Zaabi and two girls - Salma Al Nasiri and Taliyah Al Rawahi.
