Often referred to as man’s best friend, pet members of the species competed in different activities including agility challenge, dance shows and attack simulation contests.
The rare and high-priced Tibetan Mastiff was among the many rare breed dogs that participated in the contest. Among them also were dogs of breeds such as Dogo Aregntino, Siberian Husky, Chow Chow and the king sized German Shepherd.
The Muscat Canine team was formed in 2013 in a bid to raise awareness about dogs and share knowledge about ways to train them. The group, headed by Sami Al Wahaibi, has more than 100 members, who specialise in
dog affairs.
As a part of its contribution to the Muscat Festival, Muscat Canines held dog show events for disabled people and another couple of events in a number of colleges and universities in Oman.
“Thanks to our social media team, Muscat Canine is now recognised all over the Arab world,” said Sami Al Wahaibi, head of the team. The team will kick off its annual Dog Show 2016 event in February, according to the organisers.
