Oman urges self-restraint amid  regional military escalation

Muscat:  Oman reiterated its commitment to closely monitoring the escalating military situation in the region, expressing grave concern over its potential repercussions.

Oman urged all parties to exercise self-restraint to prevent the region and its people from being drawn into the dangers of war.

Oman emphasised its stance on upholding international laws and stressed the importance of the UN Security Council fulfilling its responsibility in maintaining global peace and security.

In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Oman reiterated the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It also underscored the necessity of establishing humanitarian corridors to ensure unimpeded delivery of relief aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip.

Also, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stressed the paramount importance of preserving regional and global security and stability amidst the recent and escalating developments in the Middle East.

It emphasised the imperative for all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avert any further escalation that could jeopardise the region's stability.

Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, said, "The Cooperation Council underscores the criticality of upholding regional and global security and stability amidst the recent and accelerating developments in the Middle East, urging all parties to exercise utmost restraint to prevent escalation, which poses an additional threat to the region's stability and the safety of its people."

Al Budaiwi highlighted the necessity for collective efforts and diplomatic approaches to resolve disputes effectively and ensure the region's security and stability. He reiterated the international community's role in supporting peace and stability initiatives to mitigate any repercussions that may lead to further escalation.
